Biography

Khawar Hussain is a dedicated public servant, experienced community advocate, and long-time local resident who is committed to delivering practical solutions, transparent leadership, and a stronger future for Ward 4.

For more than 20 years, Khawar has proudly called the Dixie–Bloor neighbourhood home, where he lives with his wife and their two sons. Having raised his family in the community, he understands the everyday challenges residents face, from affordability and traffic congestion to neighbourhood safety and the need for reliable city services. His decision to seek public office is rooted in a simple belief: every resident deserves a councillor who listens, responds, and delivers results with honesty, integrity, and accountability.

Khawar earned a Bachelor of Applied Science in Public Health from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University). Throughout his career, he has served with Manitoba Public Health, Hastings Prince Edward Public Health, and Peel Public Health as a Public Health Inspector, Provincial Offences Officer, and Tobacco Enforcement Officer.

His professional experience includes public health protection and disease prevention, food safety inspections and regulatory enforcement, safe drinking water systems oversight, outbreak investigation and emergency response, environmental health protection, licensing and regulatory compliance, tobacco and vaping enforcement, public education, and community engagement.These roles have given Khawar firsthand experience in solving complex community issues, enforcing regulations fairly, and working collaboratively with residents, businesses, and government agencies to protect public health and improve quality of life.

Khawar’s government experience has given him a clear understanding of how government works, who is responsible for addressing different issues, and where to turn when problems arise. He knows which doors to knock on, which departments to engage, and how to bring the right people together to get issues addressed. As City Councillor for Ward 4, he will use this experience to navigate government effectively, advocate for residents, and help turn community concerns into practical results.Khawar’s commitment to public service extends beyond his professional career.

 He previously ran for Mississauga City Councillor in Ward 3 in 2018, Member of Provincial Parliament for Mississauga East–Cooksville in 2022, and Member of Parliament for Mississauga East–Cooksville in 2025. These campaigns provided valuable experience in addressing municipal, provincial, and federal issues while strengthening his commitment to principled, accountable, and effective leadership.

As Councillor, Khawar will focus on the issues that matter most to Ward 4 residents. He will work to keep property taxes responsible while protecting essential city services, support practical solutions to improve housing affordability and rental options, and encourage responsible growth supported by infrastructure that keeps pace with development. He will advocate for better roads, sidewalks, parks, recreation facilities, youth employment opportunities, parking solutions, public spaces and work toward more reliable and efficient public transit; collaborate with residents, city staff, and law enforcement to enhance neighbourhood safety; and support cleaner, healthier, and more vibrant communities. Above all, he will ensure that every resident receives responsive, respectful, and transparent representation.

Khawar believes leadership begins with listening. He is committed to being visible, accessible, and accountable throughout Ward 4 by meeting with residents, responding to concerns, and ensuring that every voice is heard at City Hall. His vision is for a Ward 4 that is safer, more affordable, better connected, and prepared for the future—a community where families, seniors, businesses, and young people all have the opportunity to thrive.Khawar believes public office is about service, not politics. He is ready to work tirelessly every day to earn the trust of Ward 4 residents and deliver meaningful results for every neighbourhood. Together, let’s build a stronger Ward 4.
